Who We Are
We are student leaders across all grade levels with a passion for serving the community and in particular, the Magnet Student Class. We are a group of ambitious and compassionate young trailblazers who aspire to make an impact on the whole of Wheeler High School and the local community as well. Members are voted on to join in their Freshman year and stay with the board all 4 years. Working closely with the Magnet Administration, the Magnet Foundation, and Magnet students, we are able to contribute to our classes in traditional and innovative ways each year.
What We Do
As a group of student leaders, we work extensively with the Magnet Administration to organize many of the Magnet events, including the Fall and Spring Open Houses, Magnet Learning Links peer tutoring program, STEAM Symposium, and holiday parties. We have meetings around once a month and congregate more frequently before major events. Our Magnet Advisory Board is divided into several committees, each of which focuses on a specific Magnet event and is headed by committee coordinators, and the committee coordinators facilitate the planning and execution of their events. Our tasks are wide-ranging and include enlisting and training student volunteers for events, recruiting prospective Magnet students, engaging Magnet students in various social events and celebrations, assisting the Magnet freshmen become accustomed to high school, and fostering a welcoming and diverse Magnet community. Through these events, a strong community of interwoven talents and aspirations are combined to make each Magnet Class and high school experience better than the last. From hosting talent shows in the Spring to having picnics with rising freshman in the Fall, we make sure that all grade levels of Magnet receive the community and support we promised them when they joined. Please see the "Events" page for more information about our Magnet events.
